Our first assignment for Type 3 was to design an 8 page plus cover, text-heavy brochure about an American writer from a list that we were given. The final size was letter size and it could only be in black & white. We could use images but they had to be used sparingly. Also, we had to use a specific 5 column grid structure. The author that I chose to do was Langston Hughes. Hughes's work is powerful. Most of his work deals with African-American life and what it means to be an African-American living in America. I decided to make the cover reflect the powerful style of Hughes's work, letting the words create the imagery.
