Our first assignment for Communication Design 3 was to design a matchbook. I knew right away that I didn't want to do a typical matchbook. Originally, I wanted to do an Art School Survival Kit. It would be a humorous kit dealing with some of the issues that art school students face, like student loans and no sleep. Although I loved this idea it got rejected after the X-acto shape packaging strayed too far away from the requirements. So still not wanting to do a traditional matchbook set, I had to figure out something else to do. Eventually after sketching and still wanting do use humor, the idea for Swiss Army Matches evolved. Once I found out that it would be possible to actually build the mechanism, the true adventure began. The materials for making the Swiss Army Matches consisted of: Acrylic, Brass, Copper, and 1/4 Plywood.
